Nikon 70-200 VR vs VR11

I used to own the Nikon 70-200 VR on DX format; absoloutely loved it, quality was amazing and faultless in every way. However, I'm about to move up to FX and looking to buy another Nikon 70-200. I'd consider a used lens.

Does anyone have real life experience of both, preferably on FX? Real world differences; soft corners, vignetting, sharpness, speed?

The world of the internet so far tells me that the VR was only really optimised for DX, and VR11 was significantly improved for FX format?

Any help, appreciated!
 
The VR is still amazing on FX, only potential issue is very slight vignetting but it depends totally on what you shoot, i bought the VRII but to be honest if i had my time again i would have kept the VR and saved a few hundred quid

That's right. I've got the VR1 and I've shot several thousand frames on a VR11. Can't tell them apart as far as focus speed is concerned. Both bitingly sharp. I almost exclusively shoot at f2.8 (indoor equestrian)
Yep, there is slight vignette with VR1, never been a problem for my work.
 
Depends on what you shoot really. Yes the VR1 vignette's noticeably wide open but nowadays that's just a single click in LR to fix that you can even automate if you want. One day I may upgrade to the VR2 but i'm more than happy with my VR1 and there always seems to be something else I'd rather upgrade first.
 
got both and used on FX (D700's, D3 currently on D3X (VR) and D800E (VRII)) - the VR1 is sharp in the centre and softens (and vignettes) to the edges, in real world use (mainly music photography - so wide open 99% of the time) I would not be able to tell the difference between images taken on each lens, the VRII's VR is better (but again not to the point I can honestly say that I notice a difference)

to be fair on the vignetting 'issue', we almost always add a slight vignette to images anyway :)
