Nikon 70-200 VRI or VRII?

Will hopefully be making the purchase in the very near future, and was wondering which to go for....?

Is VRII worth spending the extra premium over the VRI?

Done a quick search, but couldn't really find many answers....

Your help is mucho appreciated! :D

I didnt search back that far - way too lazy! ;)

So, you're happy with it? No temptation to move ontot he VRII? Thats my concern....Buy the VRI, and then get tempted to get the VRII down the line! ;)

But i supposed i could spend the extra cash on other bits of kit....

Do you notice any vignetting at all?
 
Thanks Gramps, thats what i've read....But just wanted to confirm if it is actually worth the diference...

Not sure if i'll have the extra cash, as i have another couple of big purchases to make first! :(

To MY (untrained) eye :), it doesn't look like theres much difference between the 2, marginal i would say :suspect:

Maybe i'd go for the VRI first and see how i get on.....And see how long it take for 'upgrade-itus' to hit me! :gag:
 
im uploading some quick test that i did on my d700 will post the link here, nothing major but might help.
i think if your just using it on the d90 buy the vr1 its amazing on the d300,and still awsome on the d700.

If you're buying the D700, then the VR2 will be the best choice. If you get the chance to try a VR1, then you'll find that it vignettes on the D700. I tried both and opted for the VR2; more expensive but superb lens.
 
Ive just sold a new VRII to release funds to buy a D700 and i went back to the VRI which caused me some problems on FF a year or so ago, however the one ive got now is superb.

The VRII is best suited to full frame but, and its a massive but, its nowhere near 200mm when focussing on subjects closer than 10 metres away, theres some weird stuff going off with it, you need to search but side by side with the VR1 and VR11 the VR11 was only actually about 140mm, it really was weird and i suggest you try a VR1 and VRII alongside each other before comitting to buy.

I'm using it on D700. Yes some vignetting. Doesn't bother me in the slightest, guess it depends on what you shoot. On a crop you won't see any.. In fact you'll get the very best from this spectacular lens.
Probably won't upgrade, very happy with it, sharp wide open which is where it is all Winter !

Interesting - I've obviously heard this comment elsewhere from random posters on the interwebs, but to hear it from someone who I've seen write some very well grounded stuff on this forum is interesting indeed.

Such a problem is quite relevant to my use of the 70-200 and gives me an excellent excuse not to spend any money upgrading my VR1 :thumbs:

Just had a look...

Looks good to me...

I think i'll go for the VR1 when i've got the cash, and if i win the lottery or find a good deal, then i'll go for the VRII :D
