Yes
Never used either before but going to hire one from lenses for hire this weekend for a trip to Cotswold wildlife park, is there much difference between the two?..

The VR2 is by far the best lens, edge to edge sharpness is second to none. But seeing as you have a D90, then the VR1 will be more than capable as the crop sensor only uses the centre of the image circle. I have the VR1 on my D300 and love it!!

Cheers

Agree with the above.

However, if your paying out a large sum for a lens.

When or will you be looking to upgrade the body soon?
There is nothing wrong with the D90.

I love my vr2.
Works nice with the tc2 iii, giving me 400mm

On a crop you would get 600mm

What do you mainly photo?

Many thanks for the replies..I will be hiring for few days to try it out as I am off to visit a friend who works at cotswold wildlife park. My son also has football tournament this weekend so thought I would use it for that also. Was going to treat myself and hire the 200mm f2 vr but none available sadly.

The 200mm f2 would have tired your arms. It's a beast. Stick with the 70-200mm.

Kev.

the Vr2 is a great lens but that doesnt mean the Vr1 is bad, it is a really good lens, i shoot wildlife, sports and portraits and I've never needed anything better. i also use a 20E II TC as well on that lens and it works a treat

Thanks both for the reply..I will probably go with the vr1 this weekend and see how I get on with it.

 Lens booked and ready to be collected tomorrow from lens for hire.:D
Looking forward to trying it out although the mrs isnt as she knows I will want to buy one after I try it:naughty:
