Hi all

have the chance of getting one of these cheap, now I know it will not auto focus on my D5100 but is it ok to use it on there.

Cheers.

I have one of these & as it is a CPU lens it should meter OK. I have never tried it on a DSLR but on film at F8 I thought the image quality wasn't bad, certainly not as bad as the reviews I read on the lens would suggest. I haven't used it for years now as I replaced it with the D version. One caution on the focusing though. The manual focusing ring is on the far side of the zoom ring & will probably be horrible to use. I have just dug mine out & tried it. Only 90 degrees of turn from minimum to maximum focus & such a small throw may also make focusing harder?

Ok thanks for the advice, I think I will avoid it and put the money towards something else.

I used to have one of these but traded it in against a Tamron 28-300. Not an upgrade! Now got the 70-300 VR which is better (sharper and faster focussing) than the old G version - keep saving (and maybe the fat git in the red coat will chip in in a month or so!)
