Nikon 70-300

Hi I have given my Nikon 55-200 VR to a family member and need a new lens. I want a 70-300, and in the past have been 100% happy with the Tamron 70-300 series. I'm considering the Nikon 70-300 g. Now I know its supposed to be rubbish, but what do you think? Does anyone have any good shots taken with it they post? I only have a budget of £55 and thats the only one that falls in s/h sadly. tks

In the range 70-200mm the 55-200mm should outperform the 70-300G, in the range 200-300 the 70-300G is particularly soft. Coming from the 55-200 VR you're not going to be happy.

oh thats a nuisance! So, the Nikon 70-300 G is actually a worse lens than the Tamron 70-300 di? Its a good price on the forum, thats only why I'm interested, but if I will be very disappointed, then....:shake:

Don't know about the Tamron, but the Nikon 70-300G is a bit of a dog.
