Would you sell the Nikon 70-300 VR for a Nikon 80-200 2.8 (the slow original one)? It'll be used on a D90 and D200.

Depends entirely on usage. If you find that you rarely go over the 200mm range and are always hankering for speed, then the 80-200 would be a smart way forward. To see if you would adapt to a loss of VR, turn it off in the 70-300 and see if it makes any practical difference to your shooting.
Depends on what you find deficient in the 70-300, more than anything. The 80-200 will also handle differently, being a heavier and larger pro spec lens.

I had a 70-300 non-VR, bought the slow one and am satisfied with it :) Used it to take pictures in some events. I found the AF speed decent and not so terrible if you limit the focusing distances.

I just find chart I'm always looking to stop down more to try and get maximum sharpness...but with a 5.6 max, that doesn't always work great..
