Nikon 85mm f/1.4 focus issue

I was in the Edinburgh branch of Jacobs a wee while back and decided to try a comparison between the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AF-D and the Sigma version, tried the Sigma first got the audible focus lock beep from the camera and took the shot, no problems.

However, when I tried the Nikon lens (exact same settings, AF-s, f/1.4 1/125, iso 200) the camera would give the beep and allow a shot to be taken without focusing on anything. Swap back to the Sigma and the camera requires the image to be in focus before it will take the shot, back to the Nikon and it will beep to indicate the subject is in focus, even when nothing at all is...

Anyone have ideas what caused that, faulty lens I assume?

Hi mate. Sounds like a dodgy connection bbetween lens and body. Did you try reseating the Nikon to make sure it was well connected? Or even clean the contacts and see if that improves it.

I"d certainly give that particular lens a miss...
