Nikon AF Fine Tuning left On/Off

This may seem a silly question but I can't find an answer in any book.

Does the AF Fine Tuning have to be left on after fine tuning
ones lenses or can it be turned off.

If it's off then is the 'fine tune' still applied?

A link to a reference would be handy, not that I don't believe you :D

Just for interest my tweek values are..........

Nikkor 10-24....plus 9
Nikkor 16-85....minus 6
Nikkor 55-200...minus 7

I have however, yet to test them in the real world.

If it's off fine tuning isn't applied, sure it's there in the manual ... it's not the lenses that are fine tuned, it's the camera that is tuned to the lenses. It has to be on otherwise it doesn't do anything.
 
It needs to be left on for the fine tuning to have an effect. If you turn it off then the camera defaults back to focusing without the adjustments you've dialed in.

TBH after fiddling around with focusing charts and dialing in adjustments, I found that in the real world the focusing was typically bang on anyway, so I just leave it off now.
 
So long as you have the values saved, you leave it turned on, the camera will recognise which lens is mounted and automatically apply the saved value.
