Nikon AF-I Motors do they last?

Had a problem with mine, would AF fine one moment and then stick, so focusing had to be manual, then it would be okay again.
I sent it to fixation and everything came back fine BUT there are no major spares now available ... had the motor needed replacing it wouldn't have been possible.

As has been said elsewhere the AF is on the slow side, though not noticeably slower than most AF IMO, but the image quality is superb.
 
You know, maybe this is slightly off-topic, but I don't understand why manufacturers don't keep spares for these lenses. It's not as if the material to make them disappears or they can be radically different from the newer lenses. People told me when I started out that I should spend as much as I could on glass because people usually upgrade bodies but keep lenses for life. The lack of spares is one of the reason I didn't buy an old Canon 17-35 2.8 that I was looking at. I was told that major spares were no longer kept and Canon didn't do repairs on those lenses now, even if I was paying for it. It just seems a way to force you to pay again for newer lenses.
