EDIT

must be age creeping up, meant this one

Anyone used this lens on a D7000,as I am not wanting too much of a wide angle , and if I remember correctly from my film days this was an excellent lens.

I have one that I use on a d7000.

Superb lens, excellent iq, close focusing and perfect focal length for me.

Need to control some barrel distortion but easily fixed.

I've got one which I've so far only used on DX format - it's a nice little lens and is nice & sharp etc.

I have read it suffers a little on newer higher MP FX sensors in the corners.

So would you recommend it as a travel replacement to my 24-70?

I just want a Wide angle with no weight for my mountain yomps in Hawaii and lugging around NYC, LA & San fran for some Landscape shots!

So I don't feel the need to have to lug the 24 - 70 and see this lens as a great alternative agreed?

I've used one on a D700 and it was good yes, I think it would make a nice light weight alternative to the 24-70. I only mentioned the higher MP sensor issue on FX but the 12mpx of the D700 will be fine I feel.

Had a couple of these and they are fine (on a D700 at least) - I'd say the 24-70 wasn't all that great at 24mm to be honest, so you wouldn't be giving up much by going with the prime.

Yeah, it's a great lens, I don't use mine enough, traded in my first one and missed it so much I had to replace it - on DX it's a nice 35mm equiv. As someone else mentioned, I have the 24-70 also but travelling light with this and a 50/1.4 (and sometimes a 85/1.8) is nice

I've just had a look at it and it's the non-D version, but there isn't any difference optically between the AF and AF-D version.

Maybe that's why!
