looking at getting myself one of thease to go on my d300s/200 and was wondering what the quality of the lens was like..

i dont have a budget as such just want a good fixed lens.

so any advice/comments welcome

Do you mean 35mm rather than 25mm?

If so, it's very highly regarded. I've just received a used one in the post today so not had a chance to use it yet but I read enough positive reviews to buy with utter confidence.

What would you be using it for?
 
for an everyday lens really..have heard some good things but thought i would see what you good people know about it..
 
I've not used mine outdoors yet, but as an indoor lens in low light it's been superb. If you weren't needing the AF-s particularly, I would also the consider the cheaper 50mm 1.8 or more expensive 50 1.4.
 
I really like the 35mm, took it to Paris on holiday for a lightweight walkabout lens and got some great pictures. The focal length worked really well both for scenery/landscapes and people shots. I use it a lot now and tempted to upgrade but it seems to be a massive jump in price to the f1.4 models.

The 50mm comes well recommended too, but for me on a crop sensor the 35mm gets far more use. Maybe go out with the kit lens but stick to 35mm for a while then stick at 50mm and see which you prefer ;)
 
I love mine. With the D90 (or your 300s) at ISO 3200 and f 1.8 you can see in the dark practically In brighter light and stopped down to 2.8 or so it is super sharp. The size makes it a perfect tagalong lens for wherever you're going. And it does decent closeups too. If I'm only carrying one lens it is either this one or the 55-200.

i have a couple of good zoom lenses up to 200mm and a sigma 105mm macro so i just want a good fixed lens for everyday work..so i think i will go with the 35mm
