I just wondered if anyone had this lens, and what they thought of it?
I currently have the D3100, Nikon 70-300mm, and kit lens, but with Rheumatoid Arthritis, it would be good not to have to change lenses in the field on a bad day, as not only does it take me a while, but I am always afraid I will drop a lens! :shake:
I have read lots of conflicting reviews on the 28-300mm, with some saying it's sharp and brilliant, and others saying that it isn't great. So it would be good to hear some views from the lovely people on here!
I should add that my photographic interests include birds and mammals, insects, especially butterflies and dragon/damselflies, and landscapes, and of course my dogs!

Bigsmiff has one. Really reckons it. I happen to know he's on holiday at the moment.

I'm really sorry,and I hope folks don't think I have been lazy, but I've done a search using "Nikon AF-S 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens", and all I get is a thread about Nikon announcing 3 new lenses, but that finishes before this lens was actually on the market.
Any ideas what search terms I should use please?
 
I have one up aswell, not many people have it but the general reviews online say it is a great walkaround lenses which is sharp at 5.6-8 at the lower focal range and f11 at the higher end. I am getting one for my D700 as I need a one lenses which can do my holiday snaps.
 
Just got mine today and I must say I am impressed. It is pretty sharp when stopped down to 5.6 or f8. Only thing is when focusing I get a very buzzy type sound. Is this normal?

Unless you mean the VR activating, no.

I turned VR off and it was still doing it, might take it back to Jacobs and see if they can get me a replacement
 
Thank you for the feedback on this and glad you are impressed with the image quality. Sorry you'll have to return it though. Hope they have one that is just as sharp but with no buzz!
