Any good ?

Currently using a 70/300 Nikkor on D300 and its very soft at the long end......

Either this or 70/200 2.8 and convertor ?

Thoughts please/

A few members here have the lens and speak highly of it, £76 for 3 days rental seems about right :)

b****r, sorry about the title. I was looking at Lensforhire whne I used C+P.....

I've got the 80/400 and use it on both a D300 and a D7100, find it great throughout and very fast focusing

Well google can just about read Chinese! The OP roughly says this (not perfect but you can roughly work out what's said):

Yesterday evening arrived in the hands of the new lens Original Nikon finally have a decent telephoto lens, was surprised weighs only 2300 grams Was a star of a great portable camera, if it is to light a friend, it really is the gospel F5.6 aperture can be said is a sunny mirror, every evening to go out today, is deliberately want to know the performance of this lens with the focus on the details, Focus response is good, details are also feeling a lot better than the Nikon 80-400mm, I do not feel, after 80-400mm going to be sold Of course we want to know that he should be the result of comparison with S156S version, so I this mirror.

Right! ... Did I get that he was pleased with it? :D

There is nothing google can't do, except translate the whole page! Looks like the IQ is quite good (ok they are taken with the D4S). If build quality is good, it's good at 400-500mm at f5.6 nd doesn't feel like it will break in half in a few weeks I could be sold on one of these.

I have one and the first thing you notice is the weight, so best used with a mono/tripod. Fast focus?yes, sharp? yes. Am i happy i got one? yes. I got mine from

50mm f1.4 lens as a comparison . so it is a biggish beast not one to go on an all day shoot with. Drawback?
yes the collar ring base is short ,not ideal to use as a handhold ,but there are alternatives I understand that are third party

Thanks folks.

The 200/500 does look like worth investigating....
