Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Hi All,

Has anyone got/had/used the above lens? If so, what did you think of it? I'm thinking of buying that and givin the 18-55mm to the missus to start out.

Any opinions on the lens welcome..

I have one and they are a great lens, changed upto the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 which is a better step up imho

Thanks for the reply. I've had a look at a local camera shop, and that Tamron lens appears to be about £200 more than the Nikon. Whilst I'd like to do the better upgrade, money wouldn't really allow at present :\

There are obviously better lenses out there than the Nikon 18-105mm and the plastic mount needs carful handling but for the money (I got mine second hand for £100) I think they are great value and the range is very useful. I have had plenty of fun and taken some very nice shots with mine.

How much of an issue is the plastic mount? Is it similar to the 18-55m? I don't wanna buy something if i'm gonna destroy it (I'm useless at times ha.)

Just the same as the 18-55. Never had a problem with mine and it has had quite a bit of use but its obviously not as robust as a metal mount but then again it doesn't cost as much either. There has to be a compromise somewhere.

Ah awesome, thanks for the info. I'm fine with the 18-55mm so if it's the same as that, I wouldn't be that concerned. I was just worried that it was going to be really dodgy or something.

Never had a problem with the plastic mount on the 18-105, all my lenses have been bought second hand, usually off here
Only lens I have bought new is the 70-200
