Hi, could anybody tell me the difference between the Nikon AF-S dx nikkor 18-55mm and the VR version, i know the VR is vibration reduction but can you really tell the difference when taking pictures as all the D40 kits come with the non standard lens and not the VR, or is it worth buying a d40 body and then the VR lens.
Thanks for looking hopefully you can help me make the right choice.

its not really worth buying a d40, its a basic camera which is at least 6 years out of date, you can get the newer d3000 with the 18-55 VR for just over £300 if you have a budget

Two very different opinions there but, im still non the wiser on the lens issue, can you tell the difference between the standard 18-55 and the VR version.

Optically the VR version is a little better but not much and probably not enough to worry about.

Yeah, sorry.
No you wont see much if any difference between them.

Ok, thanks for your replies, iv just got to look out for the best deal now, if i just buy the body and lens separate or as a bundle, they seem to selling for the same price there abouts either way on a well known site.

I wouldn't spend more than £150ish on a D40 with a non-VR lens, in fact for that kind of money I'd probably go for a D50 as top LCD is rally handy and the kit lens was the 18-75mm which is a much better lens than the 18-55.
