Well having bought my D700 and ordered Mrs C's D300 (should I let her have her xmas present early :D) I have TWO £75 vouchers off Nikon AFS 70-300 lenses.

Just how good is this lens on a D700 ?

Is it worth me buying it bearing in mind the £75 off?

Oh and anybody else want to save £75 off a 70-300, because IF you do I will give you my spare voucher for a £10 donation to TP. (It has to be used with the company I bought our cameras from but they are competitive anyway)

I might well have a few more spare vouchers soon too!

Anyone got any examples.....

IMO, it's well worth its list price, so with a £75 discount, it's a bargain! Of course, it's not as sharp as a f/2.8 but for the money, it's hard to beat. Significantly sharper than the older non VR G version and has the benefit of the VR.

No real point in posting screen sized examples but if you PM me your snail addy, I'll post a couple of A4 prints to you for a small donation to TP's coffers. If you'll throw a couple of quid into a Cancer Research or RNLI box as well, I'll do an A3 but that'll be folded to save on postage! Pics would be from a D700 at apertures of your choice and differing focal lengths. If you would prefer, I could just send a CD of untouched files - NEF or JPG.

It's a very good lens that is even better on full-frame IMO.

Stopped down in good light (f/8 or so) you'd be very happy with the sharpness, not a million miles away from the 70-200mm VR optics.

Use it on my D700, its excellent, and like already said, with your discount, fantastic buy.

Its not world class, but certainly not rubbish. Probably a good punt for a reasonable (ie sub 1000 quid) lens on a D700.

My oppo Gribbsy uses it when he can't be arsed to carry 2.8 glass around and the results are still at least 90% good.

Thanks everyone and NOD the offer is appreciated. I think that for £364 I may well just give this a go. No postage as it can go in the box with the D300 .....

A quick 800px 100% crop piccy in daylight might be nice if someone has something they can post......

EXIF should be intact - Shot with D700 and 70-300 VR @ 300mm. f/6.3, 1/160th, ISO 400.
