Ok i'm currently trying to sell my D5000 and the 18-55mm kit lens that came with it and a few accessories ( remote clicker, batterys etc etc )

i know everyone seems to rave about the D90, but it's just not possible on my limp budget, i'm hoping to raise around 400 quid and been hawking Ebay for idea's, and i've come up with either a D200 body or a D80, i've done a little research and both have similar MP to my D5000 but more importantly, they both have that daft screw drive AF so cheaper lenses hopefully, but which one should i go for, i've seen some D200 body's going for around the 250-300 mark which would leave me some dollar for a Cheapy nifty fifty, or the D80 with an 18-70mm lens for around 300-350 any ideas would be appreciated. sorry for the mini essay lol
 
Unless you need the pro features of the D200 I see no point in switching at all.

The D5000 is much newer with a much better sensor (not the be-all and end-all but worth a lot in my book).
 
i'm trying to get the lens costs down tbh, my D5000 needs lenses with AFS, instead of screw drive AF, so a nifty fifty for my D5000 would cost £200 instead of the standard AF costing £100 :)
 
Unless you're into head and shoulder portraits 50mm is a naff length on a dX body, just get the 35mm f/1.8 which is a cracker of a lens and never really off my D60.

1 lens isn't a reason to change bodies.

What he says. With the exception of the motor and the more robust body the D200 is a step back from your D5000, surely a used D90 body must be available for £400 or less?
 
Hi Flash, thats what everyone seems to recommend, but even the body's go for around the 5-600+ Mark, :(

I had a D60 and I upgraded to the D80 for the same reason as I wanted the internal motor and the top screen, changing settings through the back menu and screen was a real bind. I love the D80 and its filling the gap until my next upgrade. I was lucky and I got a practically brand new one for £350 with a 18-135 (it had a shutter count of 1200). Also the battery life of the D80 is really good, it lasts 3 times longer than the D60!

I upgrade from D5000 to D7000 early this year and i sold my D5000 to them.

I got £300 for the D5000. So if you want D90 you can do a part exchange with them.
