Nikon cable release for D700?

My cheapo eBay cable release has given up the ghost after an evening by the coast. It may have had a knock or maybe got some moisture inside. I get an r13 error on all shooting modes and although I can see and hear the lens focusing on the half shutter push, the shutter does not fire.

It cost buttons and I'm thinking it might be time to invest in a genuine Nikon cable release but I'm confused, even after Googling, as to compatibility of the available models. The MC-DC2 looks suitable for my needs, but I can't tell for sure if it's compatible with the D700. Does anyone know? Or does anyone have alternative recommendations?

Page 389 of the manual lists them along with other cable options, MC-30 or MC-36 are the ones, I have the MC-30, the MC-36 is the expensive one if I remember correctly.

Martin does the MC-30 give you the facility to lock the button down, for use with bulb mode in long exposures?
 
I have a copy of the mc-36 bought from ebay for around 20 notes its always been good with no issues.

Good stuff. Have ordered from Jessops for pick-up tomorrow. 50 notes (ouch) as opposed to 70 from Amazon. Resisting the urge to buy another cheap one - totally let down last night when my cheapo failed. :)

My cheapo has been from beat from pillar to post inclufing being dropped into sea water and still works perfectly.
 
Is it like this one Tommy?

I have to say that I do rate the Yongnuo stuff... Just reluctant to spend £20 on a 'short-term' fix...

The one I have that has just failed is also branded Shoot.:| Think I'll bite the bullet and go for the Nikon one - I'm really getting ito landscape photography and I need something reliable.
