Nikon cameras. Are they all the same?

What I'm meaning is are the layouts, menus etc all pretty similar? eg if I picked up say a D200 or a D90, then a D3, would the button layouts feel similar, the menus be roughly the same?

Or, is it a bit like going from a 20D to a 1D MkII/III, totally different? If different, what's the enthusiast model most similar to the D3?
 
No mode dial on D100/200/300 upwards. That's the main difference for me

Pretty much, the odd button has come or gone, or is added as you go up the range and through the years, but other than that....
 
Thanks guys. :) So the D100/200/300 is more like the D3?
 
pretty much, buttons do move between upper and lower ranges, and obviously the mode selection dial changes, but the buttons keep pretyt much the same little icons, and the menus are very similar with just the extra stuff added in logical places for higher/newer models. Basically if you have a D90, it shouldnt take you more than a few minutes to find your way round a D300 for example. Like all these things, it might take you considerably longer to learn how to use the new fangled gizmos, but the basics remain the same.
