hi guys,
can you help me ive just brought an Nikon 105mm vr micro lens, and was wondering is the R1 or R1C1 worth the extra money over an sb-29s? If so which one **** i get?

I had the R1 set-up with D300 and 105 VR. The SB-R200 speedlights can eat up the batteries but apart from that they are very good and can be used on the attachment ring or on the supplied stands. I think your D90 has a commander mode so can control other Nikon speedlights at the same time.
 
oh ok, can u fire each side independently?
 
I got the r1 set the other week, I have only managed to have a quick play so far but I am very impressed. I use either the commander mode on the camera or from my sb900. I also have plans to use them on stands for use with portraits and such likes. Looking foward to having a proper play with them.
 
The commander is not really necessary with a camera that has the wireless commander built in. It gives an extra channel which is not really much use but otherwise no. You can set each flash power separately using the menu.
