Looking for something like this in a coloured body for a young member of the family. Anyone had any issues with this model or can recommend something similar?
I have a friend who has a Coolpix and she's very happy with it. I don't know which model it is. A colleague, who's an enthousiastic amateur tog, has a Coolpix and says he uses it a lot more often than he uses his DSLR, due to its portability.
Would the younger member like to experiment with Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, as well as using Auto? I bought this Panasonic Lumix last autumn and have been delighted with it:
I got the red model for just over £100; I'm puzzled by the price increase, but very happy that I got a bargain! It has fewer megapixels than your Coolpix but a 20x digital zoom. Lots of Scene and Creative modes.
For Christmas 2010, I was given a Canon Ixus 105; I still use it often. For what it is, it's marvellous. No manual control etc. - only Program mode but you can do quite a lot there. It's taken some great (to me!) pics. Perhaps have a look at newer Ixus models (?) This is mine:
Thanks for your reply. Its for someone starting out so not needing manual controls at this stage. The Coolpix is a nice compact design so will try to have a closer look at one in a shop. Had an original Coolpix myself many years ago....
