Having a clear out, came across my old Nikon Coolscan III. It was a great machine in its day, turning slide a transparencies into digital Images, but that was a good few years ago . . . Anyone give me advise, is it viable on a modern computer running XP?

Would an anorak appreciate it?

I have all my fathers Kodak 35mm slides, found them today as well . . . retiring next year, I fancy the project of converting his slides. If its not reasonably viable on modern computers, any idea of the value to a vintage collector, if any at all.

In good condition, have all the 35mm adaptor trays, destruction book etc.

Completed listings on ebay turned up 3 that sold for between 57-72 quid. Later models seem to go for quite a bit more.
 
Its a perfectly viable scanner if the pc you want to use it on will accept an scsi card.
I've used an scsi scanner for a long while now and the card has moved through 3 machines and 3 operating systems, currently on a win7.
scsi is not plug and play, you have to turn on the scanner before you turn on the pc, you need a few drivers and maybe a multi pin adapter depending on the card and/or the connection cable you have, but apart from that you wouldn't know it from a usb scanner.
The top res of the coolscan 3 is respectable enough and if the thing is working correctly will probably make a better scan than most flatbeds imo

Thanks for the info joxby, I wont bin it yet then! I will have a word with my friendly computer Guru, see what he can do . . . there is no desperate hurry, as I say, retire next year, work in progress as time permits.
