Both!

Even bog standard its a lot brighter and bigger than the D200's. With the DK-17m and the DK-19 its like looking through the Hubble scope!

d700 is alot bigger and brighter than the d300.

It just magnifies the view a bit, making the text and image easier to see in the viewfinder. Its still far superior to the D200 even without it.
