No
Got mine last week for a good price . I dont get too excited by 1000000 pixels etc. I just want a good strong camera for street work. stuck a 50mm 1.8 Nikon on it . And have had someone who knows the camera very well set up all the settings so nothing weird is going on !!

Its a funny old camera... some people swear blind its noisy over 600. some swear they get good results at 1000!! Some of pics i have seen on the net have blown me away.... really stunning.
Now i know it use to be the camera to have some years ago, just wondering who else here has one and if they fancy telling me how they use it etc

I would love to know if i can SHOOT in B&W and view? As i prefer to not be confused when i want to "THink "B&W and have to view colour !!
Thanks

Luke

If you want to shoot in B&W, I'd suggest you shoot RAW - it'll display on the monitor in B&W, but you'll still be able to process in colour at a later date should that become necessary...

If you're just shooting for web use then the D2Hs is a fine camera. I used it's big brother, the D2x for about five years before we upgraded to D3 last year and apart from the sensor-size, it's the same.
Rugged as a tank, very well sealed (fell into a river carrying both of mine with no lasting trauma to either of them) and easy to use once you get your head round what's what.

Make sure you download and apply any firmware updates from Nikon that are available - these address any minor inconsistencies in colour-balance, AF-speed etc...

Rob

the shop did the firmware for me 2 days ago. I am using it for events ,pics to be published in Local papers (had one on tuesday !!)

Can you confirm..!

If i use RAW + JPG ( i need instant access to emailing it ) i will see a option to view in B&W ? or RAW only?

I like the camera and it will do me for a year or so then upgrade via the S/H route to a D3 even if i lose 50% i will be ok.

You don't view the RAW itself, you view the embedded JPEG thumbnail contained within the RAW file, whether you're shooting RAW+JPEG or just RAW.

If you set the camera to record only in B&W, the RAW still records everything, but the embedded JPEG will show as a B&W image on the camera.
If you shoot RAW+JPEG in B&W both the embedded JPEG and the seperate JPEG will be viewed as B&W.

However, the embedded JPEG will change to a colour one IF you subsequently process the RAW file as a colour image.

The camera will be more than fine for Press work...

I cannot find any B&W settings !!

go on ..tell me and add a few of these " :bonk::bonk::bonk:" after your post !

Just looked at my D3 and it can't do it - I think on the D2x (same setup) it was 'QUAL' and use the sub-command-dial to get to B&W...I may be wrong as I never actually used it myself...

No sign of it there !!! even doing a google search turns up nothing:'(

Try the different colour modes. I've tried it on my D2x but never really used it much. If I remember correctly it's only available when using sRGB not Adobe RGB.

Its On sRGB there is 2 version: 1 +3
2 is adobe

still no luck

Maybe its just not possible :'(:baby::baby:

Its in the custom picture settings where you change 'portrait' 'vivid' 'landscape' etc... Very bottom 'B&W'.

You'll get a nice flashing warning in the view finder when its enabled too. Gets annoying.

????
On a D2HS? it does have these functions

Excellent camera, still miss mine and the extra DoF for macro due to CoC. Best macro lens (and cheap) is the 55mm F3.5 a fabulous pairing with the D2h. Will easy print up to A4 too.

Love my D2Hs - they have a quality of image all to themselves - however there is no way to make the image B&W in camera. You'll easily get half page broadsheet images in newspapers from this camera.

Must have been the D1x I was thinking about - like I say: I never used it, nor did anyone else I know, so maybe it was discontinued as a feature...
