Nikon D2x ?

IQ is good at low ISOs but noise is a problem above iso800 If the price is right it is well worth buying.

built like a tank so 26,000 shots hardly anything.

I watched these a while back on ebay hoping to get a bargain as a bit dated now, but no such luck, from memory cheapest were about 500 notes going right up to the £700's for mint ones.

For the money your better off going for the D300 tbh, better frame rate at full crop, newer generation of onboard wizardry - I read a thread about this recently, lots of togs moved from the D2x to the D300 - especially those interested in sports etc. The D300+grip is a really nice combo.

If you're after a D2x then you're better going for the D2Xs, but in most areas a D300 will do the same job better, especially at high isos.

Ok, thanks for the info.
I have been reliably informed that Nikon will be making an announcement on Thursday about their middle/high end models so will wait a couple of days to see what occurs.

The press conference is tomorrow afaik ;)

Anyone own one of these?
Thoughts on it ?
Value of a mint one with 26k on the clock?
IQ compared to say D300?

Thanks.

At ISO100 the D2x is probably the best quality Nikon camera short of the D3x. Way better than a D300. IMO

Have a look at the D2Hs - they are magic up to 1250 ISO or so - they have a very special quality which I still love in spite of having a couple of D3 bodies. Forget about mega px - just look at the results!

I would agree at low iso. The D2x produced a lovely picture - far nicer than my d300 was. The D700 I replaced the D300 is a close to call at low ISO and at high ISO there is no comparison.

Unless you need a bomb-proof Pro-Spec body the D300 would be better, image-wise. As others have said the noise at anything higher than 800 is a bit...'noticable'...
I used D2x's in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as recently dropping two of them in a river - they still work! Incredibly tough...
