Nikon D3 + 24-70 F2.8 vs Canon 1D mark III + 24-70 f2.8L

Title says it all, I previously sold my canon 550D and 24-105 F4L as I was short on money and took a break from photography.
For a while I used my friends 5D M2, enjoyed it.
I won't be doing video, therefore I don't need anything newer. The nikon combo will be a bit more expensive, I plan on going for more glass but I'd like to start with the simple combo first.


Other than the fact if you're a nikon/canon fanboy .. which would you prefer and why?
 
Nikon all the way, ive used both combinations, the D3 is far far superior to the MKIII in every respect, speed, high ISO, dynamic range, etc, etc, the Canon was beset with AF and Mirror problems from the onset and even after Canon applied "the fixes" lots of cameras still wouldnt work correctly, i had 3 of those bummers.

As with the 24-70mm's the Nikon is superior by a long margin, the Canon version i opwned was mushy towards the edges but the Nikon is sharp all over the frame.

To keep expense down wht not shoot the D3 with a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 without BIM, I use that lens professionally and its absolute superb.
 
I can second that the tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is a good lens on full frame, very light and compact too, excellent value for money and I've got fantastic results.

I'd like the nikon 24-70 f/2.8 one day but can't justify it's cost at the moment especially with the tamron giving such great results

Can't advise on the bodies, not used either.
 
When my 1DIIn finally gave up the ghost I used the opportunity to switch to Nikon and the D3. The only Canon alternative I could afford at the time was the 1DIII and it really didn't match the D3 in terms of AF, ISO and image quality.

Given the choice again, I'd do exactly the same.

Was thinking, if you went for the Tamron 28-75 then if this isn't weather sealed (I'm not sure?) it may be worth considering the Nikon D700 instead, which is still weather sealed I believe but not quite to the same level as the D3.
