I've just bought my first professional camera, a Nikon D3. what is/are the most useful lenses for my first couple?

Depends what you are going to be photographing Donna but I would put Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VRll at the top of the list, closely followed by the 24-70 f2.8.

the two best are the 24-70 and 70-200. That combination suits all things. I also use a 50mm 1.4 G on mine and that produces some amazing results.

im quite suprised you can go out a spend a couple of grand on a camera body then come here and ask for simple lens advice. but congrats on your purchase
