Yes
B&H in the US have been listing the camera as "out of stock" for a while and there are reports from another US retailer, BestBuy, that they won't be receiving any more stock either.....

Before anyone gets too excited about the prospect of an imminent arrival for the D400, the person who first reported this on dpreview went on to say

"I asked (the BestBuy sales assistant) if the d200 (still available until recently at BestBuy) is a full frame camera. Yes, it should have that option to take a full frame. Well I better try to explain to him exactly what a full frame camera is - that on a d50 a 50mm lens would be multiplied by 1.5 but on a full frame it would be 50mm. The light bulb must have finally went on for this guy but his wattage must be dim as he still said well it should have the option to take a full frame"

BestBuy are coming this way soon, in a joint venture with Carphone Warehouse.....:shake:

The D300 isn't listed as discontinued on the Nikon UK site just yet Flash, and the D40 is. That said the D40's replacement (sort of) is listed, but the D400 isn't listed yet. Hopefully this will change ion the next couple of months and push the second hand price of the D300 down a bit, otherwise I'll have to go with a D200...and I don't fancy the low ISO performance much...and NO! I can't stretch to a D90

Flash I have been following a thread on a US based forum & the reason that B&H are listing no stock is that one of thier buyers messed up big time & ordered non US grey import D300's, these have been withdrawn from sale & they are now waiting for replacement US stock !!!
This reply was posted by Mr B&H himself, so I tend to believe it :bat::bat:

The D40/D40x microsite is still up and running

B&H sell gray and US gear on their site, so that wouldn't explain them having no stock. Nor would it explain BestBuy's lack of stock...

well i have a D300 and a battery grip so hopefully it will fit the D400 or the D800,

You're awesome Flash :D

Thanks sdb

Right now the difference in price between a used 40D and a used D300 is the only thing that is stopping me going and trying Nikon bodies out with a view to a change. If a D400 were to come out then the D300 may start to drop into my price range.
I approve of this rumour.
