Beginner Nikon D300 Tethering

I want to be able to teather my D300 to a laptop so as soon as I take a picture it appears full screen on my laptop. Can i do this just using a usb cable? Or do I have to use the WT-4 wireless transmitter? do I require any additional software for both of these options?

Yep, you can do this with an USB cable but you need some software as well. If you have Lightroom you can use that, otherwise you'll have to use something else. Sorry no recommendations :(
 
DigiCamControl is a free tethering program for nikon,I havent used it but it is worth a try.
 
A few years ago I wanted to try tethering with a Nikon D70 and found a free bit of software called
DIYPhotobits.com Camera Control. It worked pretty well. It also worked with a D200 when I got that. It's available here.

Worth a try as it would only take a few minutes to install and see if it works.
