Currently using a d70s looking to starting using medium format film cameras but also want to get a 2nd hand digital camera is the Nikon d300 still worth it or do you have any other recommendations for a digital camera that will be used a lot and for anything and everything, needs to be a noticeable upgrade from the d70s ( won't be buying many lenses just a 50mm)
 
Just had a look at Ebay completed listings and the D300 body mostly goes round the £650 mark so this would seem reasonable for a pro body. A used D700 is about twice this.

The op is coming from a D70s, a D90 would be the natural progression if he just wanted a newer version of the same. Unless the extra features are needed then it's just spending money for the sake of it.

you could be right,both are worth a look at, its which meets your requirements.

Upgraded from a d5000 myself a few months ago. I think it's wonderful but I suppose the d7000 and d90 are both worth a look as well. The d7000's sensor is better the d90/300 one so iq is potentially better particularly at high iso. Where the d300 excels is the way it fits the hand and the ergonomics of the controls. The AF system is superb too.
 
D300 is a great camera and it still are, no doubt about that. Have you thought of getting a used D7000?

If you after the big chunky pro body and fps etc then get the D300 otherwise D7000 is worth getting.
 
£600......:shrug:

cash only on inspection and go with a BIG mate or TWO
