This kinda a weird moment for some reason. I'm all set to buy a D200 today as a backup body but as i'm noisy on ebay and saw a unbid D300 (23k clicks) on for £450.

So i waited till the last min and place a £450 bid and i won the bid.

So i just bought a D300 ....... scratching my head now because the camera was originally use as backup but since this is a D300 and i own a D7000 i have to think which is main and which is backup now lol.

I guess i cover the low light performance and high pixel from a D7000 but at the same time i can enjoy the fast burst and high buffer and better AF on the D300.

I'm happy actually lol.

Time to look for a battery grip for the D300 now. Look like i will buy the Meike since most people use them and have no problem atm.

Yeah i can't really wait. Love the feel on the D200 + Grip so this will give me similar when i attached a grip to the camera.

I think is one of those days when no one is bidding lol and i got lucky.
 
I know Scott will jump in to the thread at some point lol.

I'm buying the MB-D10 grip from a member in here because i liked all my camera grip specially the D300 to bulk it up.

So even with the grip i can only shoot 6fps? unless i buy a different battery? I really don't want to use AA battery to shoot 8fps.

AAs or an EN-EL4a - personally I just use AAs, a tenner's worth of Eneloops does the job nicely :D
 
i think you right about the AA .... the EN-EL4a is not cheap but then i need the battery chamber which is not cheap as well .......
 
I could not drop 'below' a D300 so that would be my main camera, feel, controls, AF... although the high ISO on the 7000 would be nice!

I think i need to buy the MB-D10 battery chamber which cost around £35. I believe Nikon should include this on the battery grip since they sell them pretty high price.

To get 8fps i need to paid another £60-65 minium for the battery, charger and chamber.

I think i stick with 6fps till i actually need it then invest the money lol.

I would be very reluctant to be using a £15 battery in a camera such as the D300/s. The battery is a very high energy cell that is used in the D3/s/x. Also that type of battery will perform to its best when conditioned with the Nikon dedicated charger.

I used My D300s with MB-d10 and EN-EL4a battery and it gave fantastic run times. But it was charged and conditioned on my D3s' charger.

Cheap is not always good and the battery probably won't have a thermal safety fuse built in????

You're going to have the same framerate without the AA/EL4a + grip. Great cam to use.
 
My D300 is all good to go when it arrive, with original battery grip, CF cards, spare battery is on the way.

Just hoping everything will be fine on the camera when it arrive.
 
My camera came today and the grip came today as well. But no memory card yet apart from a 1GB jessop CF that the seller include which is nice so at least i can get soem test shots.

First impression on the grip with grip: This beast is bloody heavy compare to my gripped D7000. It make my D7000 look like small animal but i guess is good to have 2 bodies to work with since D7000 image quality is good. Immediately got the Nikon 28-70 f2.8 attached which make the cmaera even heavy but i like it tho.

Overall i'm happy with the D300 Gripped.

One thing i was so silly when i got the camera was going through all the settings so it matches the D7000. So stuff like active D-Light etc is off.

Try the burst mode at start but wasn't happy at beginning because i can only get around 3fps on CH mode. After so research i found solution because i was shooting in 14bit RAW which will go slow on high burst, so change to 12bit and things all sorted. My D7000 can shoot 6fps on 14bit RAW so didn't think of that atm.

Overall i love the camera and i will use both D300 and D7000 as my work horse since both server different purpose but very similar for me.

er right, nikon dont make batteries they buy them in from probably the same place and charge ten times as much. chargers charge batteries, they dont condition them. By all means waste your money but i have cheap batteries for my d300s and they work fine.
 
is gonna be awhile before i going to get a EN-EL4 to try. I blow all my money on the D300, grip, accessories etc. So the 8fps is gonna be a very minimal thing since i don't shoot 8fps that often anyway.

I would echo this. Bought third party batteries from Amazon for my D300 and they worked just fine and are still going strong in the D700. No way would I pay Nikon price.
 
Do you guys use 12bit or 14bit RAW?

14bit seems to be very slow when the shutter open and close compare to the 12bit.
 
i set my to 12bit now, it seems and feel better then the 14bit. I shoot on 14bit on my D7000.
