Yes
not sure what camera body to go for next, really can't decide weather to go nikon or canon, both are about the same price, spec is slightly different but really can't decide.
what are peoples opinions on these two cameras?

Go to a shop see how they feel in your hands then decide.

if you want to make movies, the 7D. If you don't, a second hand D300 will save you a very decent amount of money that you can spend on a nice prime or two ^_^ High iso performance is better on the 7D.

but yeah, go try them out... though the 7D is the first canon that (as a nikon user) feels 'natural' to me to use, imo the handling is pretty similar between the two.

do you have an investment in any lenses already? If you've got lots of nikon lenses then you might not want to have to start again with the canon.

never had the "feels natural" moment, they all just feel like cameras to me no matter the brand or model

Have a think about what lenses you want in the future and base your decision upon that.
Unfortunately I don't know much about Nikon lenses being a Canon user, but to my knowledge there is no Nikon equivalent of the MP65 (somewhat specialised macro lens), 400mm F5.6L, 70-200F4L or 24-105 F4L, all of which are well thought of by Canon users. I'm assuming that there will be some Nikon lenses for which there's no Canon equivalent, hopefully someone can update this post with that.

What do you intend to shoot? do you already have either Nikon or Canon lenses? i use the D300s and it is fantastic and well worth the upgrade from a D300 which is now suffering from falling prices and will only get worse.
I have not used the 7D but moved from Canon to Nikon as i think that Nikon offer the user much better flexibility with the camera functions and menus.
Nikon lenses are more expensive than Canon but again in my opinion far better at the top end.

 I can't wait to receive your D300s next week!

you are trying to choose between 2 really fine cameras! Either will give you great results, reviews seem to give the Nikon the edge for its autofocus whilst the 7D appears to have the edge in IQ at the moment.

Although I am a Nikon user it does appear Canon have the lead at the moment, but the D300s and even the D90 cant have a replacement that far off so you might want to consider waiting a bit.............

This has to be more about how the camera feels in the hand and how happy you are with the menu system and the most important for me is the assignable button ability.

The performance of the body at this level is less of an issue imho as there os little between the Nikon Cannon offerings...........don't shoot me though:|

For me NIKON had to be the one as the front and rear control wheels just fit my way of thinking and operation is natural to me for fast action with aperture and shutter speed....

The cannon in the same league as the D300 just felt wrong in my hands - I have not regretted going Nikon either - I can also give a (y) for calumet Liverpool who were very patient with me:LOL:
