Nikon D3100 or D5000

Hi,

I'm thinking of swapping my D3000 for a D3100 or D5000 mostly because of the lack of live view on the D3000.

What are people's opinions of these two camera bodies, and which would be better for landscape and abstract photography? What useful features will the D5000 have over the D3100?

Have you looked into the D90? It will give you options to lens without motors.
 
Hmm, hadn't thought of the D90. I've just taken a look at secondhand prices and I think that they might be a bit out of my price range as i'm trying to do this change with minimum of expenditure.
 
Personally I'd go for a D3100 as the D5000 doesn't really offer anything extra other than an (not very useful) articulated screen. Whether that's enough of an upgrade over the D3000 is a different matter though...

If a D5100 was an option that would be a good shout as it has autobracketing which could be hand for landscape.

I found the D3100 perfectly usable tbh, good feature set and good menu layout for the price, dare I say a couple of better features on the D3100 than the D7000 I now have, like the ISO being able to assign it to the FN button on the D3100, not on the D7000, the rear screen showing a nice graphical interface for your settings on the D3100 and the option of having a more regular settings screen, where as the D7000 just has the regular, oh and a really nice feature on the D3100 it has a nice mode swithcer under the main dial for single shot, burst, timer, quiet, D7000 has this awkward thingy that's just not as clever as the D3100 for ease of use.

I can't add anything about the D5000 as I have not owned one.
