My daughter cant think of a thing that she wants for Christmas apart from a book and some impulse body spray . She has an interest in cameras so opinions of the D3100 with kit lens for a 12 year old please

The D3100 is a very nice first SLR these days, if you show her the basics then it's not too tricky to get used to the controls. Be warned that chances are she'll quickly start eyeing up more expensive lenses though. ;)
 
Thanks is it smaller in hands than the likes of the d7000 ? as she is very petite

Its very small, about the same as a bridge camera really. Great first, and indeed second or third body.
 
Great camera easy to pick up then go and learn , nice and light too with the kit lens , which produces great results . I've had mine for a year and it has served me well .

She was really pleased as she came up with something she wanted ... A candy grabber !!
Love her to bits she would have been happy if I had just bought her the impulse !!
 
I've had mine for about 3 years and its great - has served me very well. Am about to upgrade so will keep it and probably pass it to my 10 year old.

I'm sure your daughter will be very pleased
