Well phase 1 of my plan has started....
Wife has now got this & is very happy - do I try to get the D800 next or Nikon 300mm F2.8 VR2 whilst shes in a good mood...

Well I like my wife but a Nikon 300mm f2.8 G ED VR II AF-S Nikkor Lens has a lot of appeal too....

Pete, depends what you want to shoot, but if she's in a good mood NOW, spend it on the most expensive item! (she might change her mind later :shake + the D800 will drop in price eventually

The 300 F2.8 is a killer lens btw.
