Nikon D3200 & m42 manual lenses

Just picked up a cheap Nikon-m42 adapter and was surprised to find out that, when the m42 lens&adapter are fitted, the d3200 won't shoot on aperture priority mode, thus meaning metering must be done completely manually, rendering it pretty useless for street shooting seeing as I don't have a manual meter and would be using through trial and error. Is there any way to get around this? Just surprised given easier experiences with most canon cameras.

You can, but it's not ideal.
Go to menu, movie settings, manual movie settings. Choose 'On'.
Set camera to manual, set desired ISO, set aperture to what you want.
Press live view and you'll see what you will get.

Edit: adjust the shutter value until it looks OK. The exposure should be close to correct, a good starting point anyway.

It's not that surprising. Old M42 lens will manual aperture control and not electronically controlled aperture that modern lens have.
