Nikon D3200 or a Canon 500D

Hi all

Looking at buying myself a new camera but am struggling to decide what to go for. Looking for a camera that will be good at taking pictures of cars, whether they're moving or standing still. So with that in mind, which one of these would you pick?

Any good? Not sure I can justify that much on a camera though.

What camera have you got at the moment? Where will these cars be moving close to you or on a track far away?

Currently have a Hitachi HBC161E, a 16mp bridge camera thats produced some pretty good shots, trouble is the shutter speed isn't very quick. They will be both far away and close up, which is why I'm thinking of getting two lenses.

Maybe also worth noting that I don't teally understand the jargon involved with lenses so this is why I'm struggling to find a camera.

The shutter speed on your current camera is 1/2000's of a second. This should be fast enough to freeze any action shots you take. The lens on your camera had 21xZoom which is large in comparison to lenses you get on slr cameras.

Well I have tried and it has taken some good action shots but it's let me down when I've needed it, will still be using it but would like an SLR alongside it.
 
The problem with this sort of question is the answers will always be biased.

A Nikon user will say the Nikon, a Canon user will say the Canon (and some strange bearded person wearing sandals will appear and say neither, go for Sony or Pentax :p;)).

Best bet is try them both if you can, get a feel for what you prefer.

One positive most would agree upon, is that if you go Canon you should find AF lenses are cheaper and more readily available (new and second hand) than any other brand.
