I'm working in Malawi this year but will be returning to England the end of June for a few weeks,whilst home I intend on going to London to buy a Nikon D3s and various lenses.I'm reading in a Nikon forum that the recent earthquake in Japan has damaged several of the camera manufacturing plants which may take upto a year to recover.This is expected to cause a worldwide shortage of the high end market which of course will push prices up.I'm thinking of ordering now through Amazon who have it at a good price and send it to my parents home.Do you think I am panicking for no just reason or should I go ahead now and order it? Neil

Prices won't go down very much if at all and are more likely to increase as some vendors use the disaster as an excuse to profiteer.
Production of all consumer electronics will suffer to a greater or lesser extent, as the sub-contractors who supply smaller parts are also hit hard.
It's all bad or not so bad, depending on which rumour-mill you subscribe to.
What is a fact is that 'some' impact will be felt and only time will tell as to its extent.

Another fact: Right now they're in stock. Next month they might not be.

Agree.... Esp with Amazon as I wouldn't say next month try either next week or even sooner next day - If you have the £'s to do it now then do it jut dont hang around - its happened to me on a few occassions where I've waited till a Thursday to get it for a Saturday delivery & they sold out then the prices went up :bang:

Yup, I'd get it right now if I were you.

Yeh, when I bought mine about 5 weeks ago there was no mention on the website of "While stocks last" so they must be getting low on stock. Watch the price hike when they come back in stock.

The £3380 price is from a marketplace seller, not Amazon direct, and I would suggest the OP makes sure he is happy with that seller's feedback before committing. There's also a £20 delivery charge!

Amazon themselves are showing £3437 and this is only £28 more than the cheapest they've ever sold it for. Calumet (£3515) have 17 in stock according to Amazon.

Well I ordered the camera Wednesday evening after reading your replies,bought from Amazon themselves as I was'nt sure of the company offering it slightly cheaper.Got an e-mail yesterday from Amazon saying the order had been cancelled as they believed my account had been hi-jacked.I think because it was a large order and not to my home address but my fathers they were suspicious,they suggested I change my password which I did.I then reordered and also contacted their service depatment explaining the situation,got another reply from them today and alls ok,camera will get to my fathers Monday thank goodness.Thanks for your replies.Neil
 
I'm having the same dilema with the D700. Not in a position to buy one for at least 2 weeks but the prices are slowly creeping up.
