Nikon D3S - Help

ok, i did this set it to 2, then I took four bursts, so I personally would expect it to show 6 images, using your theory it should show four, but its not it is showing only one!
Andrea's stopped transmitting chaps - I've ordered out a Search & Rescue Sea King.
sorry chaps, my chinese take away arrived.... sorry you are of course more important but I am being frowned by my hubby!!!
She doesn't want to send anyone her nice new D3s! What do you expect.

on reflection I love my d90.... there is not much love going on right now for the d3s.....

No, you have to switch it on again for each multiple exposure.

Go into shooting menu, scroll down to multiple exposures and switch off.

So how was this happening to the OP? Surely the first batch of images she took should have been the end of the problem as the ME would have turned off, or am I missing something?

If in doubt, two-button reset I say.....
I don't know how it was happening - I've lost track of the settings Andrea was using.
If she took four bursts in CH or CL mode and ME was on (shots set to 2), the 1st burst should have fired the shutter twice then stopped, producing 1 image for the ME. Unless it was turned back on again manually, ME should now be off. Hence the 2nd, 3rd & 4th bursts should have fired the shutter N times each, producing a total of 3N images. (N is either the buffer limit, or whatever d3 was set to in the max continuous release range 1-130).
If Andrea's D3s didn't do this, either something else is going on or we've got our communication wires crossed somewhere.
This would test it:
- Format card
- Set exposure mode to M
- Choose a fast shutter speed (say 1/1000s)
- Set camera to CH or CL
- Set menu item d3 (max continuous release) to 3 shots
- Set multiple exposure to ON and number of shots to 2
- Fire burst 1 - shutter should fire twice then stop, producing 1 image on card
- Wait for green light to go out (if it's on)
- Fire burst 2 - shutter should fire three times then stop, producing 3 images on card
- Wait for green light to go out (if it's on)
- Fire burst 3 - shutter should fire three times then stop, producing 3 images on card
- Wait for green light to go out (if it's on)
- Fire burst 4 - shutter should fire three times then stop, producing 3 images on card
Would like to try to help here. The camera must have been set to multiple exposure as I don't think I did it which means all afternoon I have been baffling with this if it was going to automatically switch itself off I think it would have done so by the ammount of times I had tried this prior to making the original post. The camera had been set to m all afternoon with a shutter speed of around 500 give or take. The only difference I suppose was I did format the cards on someones recommendation, however, as they were brand new I would expect them to have been formatted???? After formatting the cards I still feel I gave the camera adequate opportunity to reset it's self if it were going to. I.e I took multiple pictures etc. Very grateful for everyone input........ Unlike the d700 Multiple exposure mode will stay on on the D3S until you switch it off. Look under the shooting menu to check it (manual p202).
The D700/D3/D3x don't - they don't have the On (series) option shown on page 203 of the D3s manual.
That explains what's happening with Andrea's camera - she's got On (series) switched on. Well spotted Hugh.
(PS. I'm assuming the page numbers are the same in the pdf and printed versions of the D3s manual).

sounds like master reset is your friend and start again [uncle ken always does this]
its so easy to think somethings wrong.
i had mine on self timer.then i was trying to photograph a red kite and nothing of course happened.as i had gotten a little wet in the rain i thought it was the electrics/contacts when all i needed to do was turn the switch.
