It was widely hoped that with the introduction of the D4 and D800 that the market would be flooded with used D3S's but they seem to be in extremely short supply ... as in none available!
Does this mean that they are more widely prized than anticipated or just that it's too soon to see any coming on the market?

Too soon I think. Mifsuds, for example, are asking customers to email them for delivery dates for the D4 and D800. Until they are widely available I don't see the 2nd hand supply of D3s picking up.

I think that the D3s will eventually come down in price. But there is probably a significant number of people, myself included, who specifically want one as opposed to a D4. So for the time being they will be snapped up as they become available. I bought mine on here in January - a beauty with only just over 4000 clicks :)

I'd go with the it's too soon reason. As far as I can see only relatively few people have received their D4, and those that have may well be holding on to their previous camera as a backup.

Also for those currently sitting on a D3s there may not be enough in the package to warrant upgrading to the D4. Of course there are those like me who'll wait it out, and then buy 6 months after the release date when hopefully all the production/firmware problems have been worked out.

IMO It's just too early to see any real bargains and volume with second hand D3s* at the moment.

*how the hell do you pluralise "D3s". D3ss? D3esses? D3ses?

lol, I think many feel your pain here! I'm not sure, D3s's or D3s' perhaps?

I think that will be my next move to add to my D3,just a bit worried that they will come in with high shutter count.
Could cope with up to 50,000 maybe a bit more.

:)

Right now I'm struggling to come up with a good reason as to why I'd trade up from my D3s anyway. The D3 maybe, but probably for another s rather than a 4.

surely the apostrophes would imply it owns something in your example

Yes, as in the D3s's photographs are excellent :) But as for plural I guess it would have to be D3ses as you'd do for I've got two cactuses at home. Although there's also Cacti but I'm thinking that could be more for saying something like: I've got lots of Cacti at home (where the specific number isn't quoted?) :tumbleweed:

What would be easier...bus? Here comes two buses? Oh look, that bloke has forgot to take his two D3ses... doesn't look right. How about I've got two D3s Nikons? (or bodies as said)

I'm glad Someone else struggles with this, as I frequently write in my blog about working with two D3s bodies. I end up have to re-write sentences as the only way I can be sure is correct is to write something like "working with a pair of D3s bodies".

lol very good ;)

Looks like my post stirred a response as just picked up my 2nd D3s ... does that mean I'm now the proud owner of D3i? :D

yes, well done on that. If I'd had the money in the bank I would have picked it up. Going to be difficult finding many in as good condition.

Do you have a D3 to sell now ... ? :naughty:
