Nikon D4 etc Rumours

You do realise that that entire post was put up by the NR admin to illustrate the complete fantasies he gets sent ever day?
 
Wow, if only I guess.. The D4 sounds pretty amazing on those specs :nuts:

Yep, pure fantasy. Quite frankly it reads like a fanboy's wish list, and not a credible one at that.

For what it's worth I have heard that the D4's (if it will even be called that) focus system is as much of game changer as the 51 point system was in the D3 etc. Also I've heard that the D4 is currently in the hands of Nikon's "trusted pros" being field tested.

BUT, and I stress BUT, it's all rumour without any substantial evidence whatsoever. We mere mortals won't know until the release (or verifiable leak) date.

There's a fairly good chance it won't be called the D4, given that the number 4 is pronounced "shi", which is awfully close to the way the word "death" sounds in Japanese.....

Well, not knowing any Japanise (apart from mosi mosi) I'll take your word for it, but it would appear the the F4 managed to avoid that particular unfavourable association ;)

Nevetheless, given the current model number rebranding coming from Nikon, I won't be surprised if this rebranding is also applied to the pro models. Although in my mind it would be a mistake on the part of the marketing department given that it would be the next expected iteration of the top pro model.

You can say Shi or Yon for the number 4 in Japanese with Yon being the one used almost all the time...Shi is only used in certain circumstances. That said the number 4 is sometimes avoided because of what you say.

Toyota actually has a series of diesel engines which are known as D4 so the above didn't stop them using the number 4....maybe they own the trademark for D4 though?!?!

It's certainly avoided by watch manufacturers, Panerai, for example skipped the PAM 004 model designation for that very reason....

Yes, but watch manufacturers are purely selling a fashion item where image and name are everything, whereas camera manufacturers are selling a useful tool for working professionals. Oh, and fashion items.
 
Given up waiting and believing any specs that are currently out there, I do believe and have been saying so for some time the D4 will be the same sort of game changer that the D3 was on it's release. Exciting times but at a cost.
