Nikon D40 built-in flash fault?

Hi everyone. I was wondering maybe you could give me a heads up on this. I have Nikon D40 v1.12 and have trouble to fire flash. On Auto setting camera pops the flash but uses the settings to take shot without it. On M setting D40 can take pictures only with flash closed. As soon as it opens I can't take shot; thought it focuses. Any ideas where the problem might be?

Please remember how many HUNDREDS perhaps 5/6 are used to trigger a tube, you wouldn't stick your fingers in the back of an old tv, or would you.

Nope; it's not the case with this D40. Everything looks all good inside but new information was passed to me. It seems that the camera had previously water damage and Nikon refuse to sort it out properly. I think "the case is done" here and Fixation "here I came".
