Hi all, this is my first request for advice so please be gentle!

I have a Nikon D50.

Now, my issue relates to when I want to use the Single Area Auto Focus feature

In portrait mode,, macro mode and a few others it focuses on the centre point of the image. However, in the M, A, S & P modes it selects the point at 9 O'Clock (to the left of the centre)

Its great when shooting my son and getting a nice off centre composition, but infuriating when I want to AF in the centre of the image!!

Please help me to adjust it to centre!!!

Thanks,
John

ok, you know the four way pad on the back of the camera? while you look thru the viewfinder, press it to the right or left and it will go thru them all, simply stop when you want it on the point. should work, had one one of them for 2 yrs, now got D70s.

Haha, thats so simple! I looked through the instruction manual (which I had to buy on EBay just for this issue!) and couldn't find that.

Thank you so much! I was a bit wary of being a bit of a newbie and asking a simple question on here, but now I'm glad I did!

Oh, by the way I just learned how to upload images on here so I thought I would share one of those pics of my son I mentioned!!!

For future reference, you can download manuals and stuff like that from the Nikon UK web site - for free. If you haven't taken a look at the site yet you'll find loads of useful stuff on there.

I like the picture of your son. Nice use of monochrome :)

..

I recently got a D40 - and "Nikon D40 Field Guide" from Amazon

SOOOOO much better than the manual - Amazon have one for the D50 too....."here"

I've still got my D50, and can only agree everyone else here, tis a great little camera :D Mind you, I've nearly never picked it up even since I got the D300, and keep on wondering if I should sell it on or not....

d50 nice camera john, but i found it a bit fiddly with those buttons,(like you have found) if you wanna upgrade , try a d80 before you buy anything newer, nice prices at present secondhand and a quantum leap in technology.
you will still get a few bob for your d50 on here, its a well respected camera.

I feel the d70 really was the milestone camera for nikon, its just got better and better. Every nikon consumer dslr since has been based on its ergonomics.
If its right, dont change it approach.
