Nikon D50

You may aswell avoid it then, i would....... :(

I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a mint one.....maybe not as good a deal, but probably better in the long run

too many d50 admirers ! can't fight for the next alphaman alone ! :( :D

there is one d50 on fleabay ending in 3h . might get lucky.

if you can get a d50 reallly cheap then go for it . otherwise I can't understand why one would pick d50 over a200.

Ok cool

I have also been researching the following cameras

Olympus A420
Sony A200
Sony A230

What would you think of these compared to the Nikon D50?

Thanks, Vicky

I started off with a Olympus E420 ... but sold it off pretty quickly :(.

The sensor is only half the size of a 'full frame' one, which makes the camera and lenses compact, but means that you can't really use it much above ISO 400 (IMO) without getting lots of grain (and shallow DOF doesn't seem to transalte very well on the smaller sensor either, although I don't know the scientific reason for that ).

It's a nice enough, portable little DSLR (if rather un-ergonomic ), but image-wise, I really wouldn't see it as an 'upgrade' from a D40 and kit lens .

Yep, much as I rate ths D50, I think the A200 is probably a better camera.

Although the IQ off the D50 is very nice, perfect 6 megapixel sensor.

You won,t go far wrong with a D50.I now have a D300 but I still use the D50 as well. There is no way that I would sell it.Three photos all taken with D50.
