My D50 has now taken over 10k shots (I think) and the pictures I am taking now do not seem to be as sharp as they used to - question is when do you get them serviced and could the sharpness issue be a factor on this ??

And how much am I looking at for a service ??

Thanks in advance.

Here you go, just a few - I may be being picky and I know I am no professional and still learning a lot

On some of the pics the ISO is 900. Thats bad news on a D50 and will definately produce visably softer images due to the noise.
The others are around 400-500 ISO, so still not ideal.
It looks like you have used flash on most too, so you can safely leave the ISO at base level (100 from memory)

What lens are you using? That may also hint as to why the images are soft.

Lens are the VR range either 70-300VR or 18-105VR or a 50mm fixed.

Thanks

Also don't remember using flash on these either ??

The Exif says flash fired on some of them. There is definetaly something up, the older pics are a lot clearer.
Not sure what it could be, possibly a foggy sensor or lens? Sounds abit far fteched though TBH.

You may have changed a few of the setting over the time you have had the camera. What settings are you using? Auto will focus on the nearest object, the young girl with the baseball bat has a very sharp arm and sleeve, her face is out of focus because her arm is the closest object to the camera.
Try resetting the menus back to default and seeing if that helps. It usually does.

If you hold the self-timer and continuous buttons for about four seconds the camera will reset all settings to factory default (indicated by the small green dots).
Then, there is also a menu reset ( custom settings> menu reset) will reset all custom settings to default.
Doing this has got me out of a few setting disasters over time!

Good luck

Allan

Thanks again - did the menu reset - didn't know about the self-timer etc so will do that now as well, will try taking some pictures tomorrow then, and see. Just hope it's not serious and love using my camera and funds do not allow a replacement at the moment :-(

If you've had the D50 since new, you could have a filthy sensor, have you considered a good clean to get any grime off.

Nick.

Very doubtful if its anything serious. I would hold off from even looking at the sensor yet, there doesnt seem to be any dirt on the images you posted, I would say its still as clean as it was when new.

Two button reset, the self-timer and continuous buttons are marked by green dots. Hold both down for 4 or 5 seconds. Done.

Then check your lenses / filters are clear of any grubby fingerprints and take some more shots.
Keep us posted.

Have done the reset and will try and get a few shots tomorrow if time allows :-)

Just out of curiosity what sort of settings should I have on the D50 ie what should they be set to ?

Thanks again for all the help so far.

Allanm - many thanks for the advice last night - I took a few quick pictures tonight and fingers crossed it "seems" to have done the trick.

The manual is very basic on the D50 - I have bought a dvd manual that I need to sit down and watch at some point :-)

The look in the last picture is the same look as her Nan gives!! lol
