Better to have the same camera as your first. However the D500 is meant to be a very capable camera with excellent high ISO handling, so if your first camera is similar all well & good, but if it's FX or a different make then not so much.
For a second camera you want it to fit the same lenses and provide the same field of view as the first, and for the output to look similar so that pictures are consistent across your whole system. If your first camera was a D850 or D5 then I suspect you'd be better off with a D810.
