so in addition to the sony alpha that i have i have been looking for another but have been impressed with the reviews for Nikon so i have came across this

Nikon D5000 8GB Twin Lens Bundle which consists of....

•Jessops 62mm UV filter (1020736)
•Centon DSLR Outfit Bag (5124395)

and its for £699

what do you guys think? shoulld i go for a better camera or would this do?

My only thoughts are why buy a different make, buy another Sony and then lenses are interchangable between bodies. I can not see the point of having a second/backup camera if you cannot use all the equipment you already have. You will end up doubling kit up in different makes so if say your Sony flash dies you can not use your nikon flash on it. Or are you looking to switch to nikon? In which case why not sell your Sony and buy a better nikon body. Either way grow the system you want to keep.

i want to move away from sony as there isnt much around for them... you can only really get vivatar or 3rd party lens for them at reasonable prices.

i want to start maybes with the nikon.... i will sell the sony once i get another body..

i need two bodies for when i do Weddings and events etc.

Andi, if you are looking to do events and weddings I think you need to look at d300 or higher fir you main body, I would also say that you need faster glass, please do not take this on the wrong way, I have shoot 1 wedding and a couple of gigs for a friend, I brought a d200 for the wedding and religated by d80 to back up then when the gigs came along I brought the d300 so the d200 became backup and the d80 became my emergancy backup backup. I have also brought a second flash and more fast glass. The wedding I did as a favour, long story, gigs I got minimal payment as she was just starting out. So outlay has outstripped payment so far

thanks for the advice... im only looking to get the d5000 as i cant really afford to buy another body as it is... and this will get me into debt so i dont want to get anything i cannot realistically afford to payback.

D90 Body better choice of lenses + used Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens build from there

ive compared the D5000 and D90 and there doesnt seem to be much difference, actually the D5000 has more features.

There is not much difference, but I can't really see which extra features the D5000 has. The LCD is movable, but is smaller and has a lower resolution.

The D90 has the AF motor.

I think on the Jessops site, they have just gone into more detail on the D5000 page.

Side by side comparison below.

I know it's the budget end but I went for a D60 a while back. I like the camera a lot but the biggest pain is having to buy AFS lenses if you want autofocus. The D5000 could have all the extra bells and whistles in the world but for me, knowing what I know now, the lack of motor in the body would be a show stopper. It closes off a whole range of good quality, relatively cheap, fast lenses.

If I was looking to add a second body on a budget it would be the D90. The extras that the Jessop's D5000 bundle include are not worth a great deal (does that Tamron lens have the motor in?) - you could get a D90 with 18-105VR for £80 more or the D90 body + 50mm 1.8 (like DSLR) says for about the same as your D5000 kit!

Edit - to clarify - of course, you can still use the non-AFS lenses - it's just manual focus only. If you can cope with that in what you do then perhaps the D5000 is suitable.
