Nikon D5000 freezing problem - Help!

My dad has a problem with his D5000. When he takes an image in RAW it takes 30seconds before he is able to take another. It just freezes! If he turns off and on its fine straightaway.

Any ideas on this? Ok for jpgs, just in RAW. He lives in Cyprus so cant see his settings, anything obvious it may be?
 
It might be that he has a very slow memory card, I do not know what type it takes Sd or CF, but it could be the card is very slow.
