Nikon D5000 lens

I've got a dilemma, I'm wanting a new lens for my D5000 but have no clue which I want.
I'm thinking of one for more portrait shots, but could easily change my mind!

Just wondered what lenses everyone else has?

You want to make your mind up over what it is you want to shoot before you spend money on a new lens :shrug:

The options are huge not just in terms of focal length but also in price.

Think carefully as it could be a very expensive learning curve.

As Nick said, decide on what it is you want to take pictures of first, then base your lens choice(s) on that

Yeah, a very expensive learning curve.
It's got to be portraits for now though, it's something I've always wanted to do.
Been looking at a few, but cannot decide.

Any suggestions?

For portraits, look no further than the Nikon 50mm (often referred to as a Nifty fifty) or 35mm prime lenses. They'll do a nice job of blurring out the background and cope with low light extremely well.
