Nikon D5000 Portraite Lens

Hi,

I am going to be doing some portraite work with studio lighting ect & have purchased a Nikon D5000 (just body) so now i would like the best lens possible for the job with out going in to the £500-£600 range.

Your help would be great as i am going around and around!

The Nikon 35mm 1.8 is hard to beat for value and quality :thumbs:

Only any good for full length shots really and even then it'll probably be a bit wide.

Given it's in a studio (and therefore well lit with controllable background) I reckon length is really more important than aperture and you can only know the right length if you know the size of studio and the type of shots you want to take.

The cheapest option would be a 55-200 which would cover most situations beyond the kit len's length. Obviously you can spend as much as you like though but you'd only want to do that if you know it's the right length...

yes i would rather it has autofocus.

i thought as much, ok whats better for studio plus outside work with models?

The 50 mm F1.4G is hard to beat as a portrate lens on a DX body...comes in under £300 new or about £250 or less used. You might be able to buy an 85 mm F1.8 too within your budget? Not really sure how much they go for.
